Norddeutscher Lloyd Koeln Menu Card – 1 November 1929
Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen dinner menu card from the steamship Koeln, dated 1 November 1929. The cover illustration, captioned “Die Pyramiden von Gizeh”, depicts the pyramids of Giza beyond a waterside scene with palm trees, buildings and small figures beneath a softly coloured evening sky. An ornate silver-grey frame with shell and starfish motifs surrounds the scene, with the shipping line’s script name below.
The German–English interior combines illustrated Egyptian scenes with a detailed dinner menu and a separate selection of meatless dishes. A bilingual notice announces an evening concert at 8:45 in the ladies’ salon, offering a glimpse of onboard dining and entertainment. A distinctive piece for collectors of ocean liner memorabilia, Egyptian imagery and historic menus.
